This site is an archive of the writing of Fergus Cassidy, an Irish writer and freelance journalist (member National Union of Journalists). 

I've been a member of the Internet Society since 2000 and am a founding member of Digital Rights Ireland

From July 2000 to January 2006 I wrote a weekly column called 'Ethos' in the Sunday Tribune, an Irish national newspaper. The columns are archived on the left, along with other published work.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has announced that its 72nd gathering will take place in Ireland, from 27 July to 1 August at the City West Hotel in Dublin.

This is the first time the IETF has held its meeting in Ireland.

Jennings for Icann board

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) has announced that Dennis Jennings will serve on its incoming board of directors.

Jennings holds a BSc and a PhD from University College Dublin and was director of computing services there from 1977 to 1999.

In the early 1980s, he played a key role in developing the National Science Foundation Net (NSFNet) in the US, a forerunner of today's internet.

He has also served on the board of Ireland's HEAnet and the Council for European Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR).

He is co-founder of 4th Level Ventures, a Dublin venture capital firm.

Jennings will on serve on the Icann board until 2010.
